Week 6 CFL Predictions

It was a low scoring week in the CFL last week and I managed to go 2-1 and now I am 9-6 on the season.  If Winnipeg didn’t blow a 17 point lead I would have been undefeated but they did so I’m not. This week we are back to a four game schedule. There is three games that I think could go either way and one that will be a blowout no matter who starts at QB can you guess which one that is? Let’s take a look.

(2-2) Saskatchewan Roughriders @ (2-2) Hamilton Tiger-Cats Thursday 7:30pm ET

If you like defensive low scoring games than this should be your game of the week and I am willing to call it mine. The Riders beat Hamilton two weeks ago 18-13 and then both teams went on their first bye last week. Brandon Bridge will once again start for the Riders because Zach Collaros isn’t ready to come back from a concussion. Bridge showed flashes of being starting QB material last game especially while leading the team on a 77 yard drive for the game winning touchdown but he is extremely inconsistent. If Bridge can come out and take control of the offence the team should be alright because the Riders defence will be great again. As for Hamilton, their starting QB Jeremiah Masoli is one game away from setting a new CFL record for consecutive 300+ yard games. If he does it against the Riders that will be 10 in a row. The whole Tiger-Cats offence will have to be better if they want to win this week. I think the Riders offence is going to start clicking and it starts with Marcus Thigpen getting a healthy dose of touches.

Prediction: Riders win 24-21

(2-2) B.C Lions @ (2-2) Ottawa REDBLACKS Friday 7:30pm ET

The Lions pulled off a big comeback win last week against Winnipeg and it looks like Travis Lulay may be the answer for the Lions after shaking some rust off last week in the first half. Chris Rainey went over 100 yards of total offence and was used very well. The REDBLACKS are 2-2 this year but both of their losses have come at the hands of the undefeated Calgary Stampeders. I like this REDBLACKS team and think they have the potential to be the best team in the east but Trevor Harris hasn’t proven that he is the elite QB that he has the potential to be. The only thing that I think will save the REDBLACKS this week is William Powell being a beast and Solomon Elimimian being on the six game injured list for the Lions. I think the REDBLACKS will get by the Lions by the smallest of margins and it could come down to the last play.

Prediction: REDBLACKS win 30-28

(2-3) Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ (1-3) Toronto Argonauts Saturday 4:00pm ET

The Bombers lost a tough one last week to the Lions giving up a 17 point lead. They will be coming out on fire this week in Toronto. Matt Nichols had an awful game and I expect him to bounce back. I won’t count out the Argos because they lost by one point to the Eskimos last week and I’m sure it’s a game they felt they should have won. If it wasn’t for a Hugh O’neill 66 yard punt single in the fourth quarter the game could have been going to overtime. I think this will be a great battle this week and maybe the best running back matchup in the league. Andrew Harris leads the league in rushing yards with 449 and rushing touchdowns with four. James Wilder Jr. only has 222 yards rushing but has 20 less carries as well. The Argos need to give him the ball more if Toronto wants to win but even that might not be enough this week.

Prediction: Blue Bombers win 31-28

(1-3) Montreal Alouettes @ (4-0) Calgary Stampeders Saturday 9:00pm ET

The Alouettes are back to starting Drew Willy this week because Jeff Mathews is out 4-6 weeks. It didn’t go well for the Als the last time Willy started and it certainly won’t against the best team in the CFL. Whether Bo Levi Mitchell starts at QB for Calgary is irrelevant because if Montreal scores more than seven points it will be a miracle. Don Jackson should have a big week for the Stamps and if you are playing fantasy I think he is a must have. There isn’t a whole lot to say about this matchup. Barring a miracle it should be blowout.

Prediction: Stampeders win 33-7

This week should have some great games in the CFL. If you want a great offensive matchup I would look to the Bombers and Argos to provide that. A great defensive battle could happen in Hamilton. I am interested to see what Lions team shows up this week because if Lulay and Rainey can click again I could be wrong in that prediction. This might be the most competitive week in the CFL so far this season and I am really looking forward to it. Thanks for reading!
