Three of four games were reasonably close last week. I say reasonably because B.C was within nine points Calgary which is all we could really ask of them. I went 2-2 last week Thanks to Ottawa blowing it and the Riders being unable to convert a third and less than one to save their lives. This week there is just three games because Calgary, Saskatchewan and Toronto are all on byes. Let’s take a look at how I see them playing out.
(5-2) Edmonton Eskimos @ (2-4) B.C Lions Thursday 10:00pm ET
The Eskimos go into B.C after beating the Riders in what was in my opinion the best game of the week and one of the best of the season. The Eskimos big play receivers paced them to the victory with timely catches. I think that Edmonton should be able to pass all over B.C this week if last week is any indication of what they can do. For B.C they are going to need their defence to step up big time and have a huge game from Travis Lulay. The Lions lost to Calgary last week but put up a valiant effort against an amazing defence. I see Edmonton getting past the Lions for their fourth straight win this week.
Prediction: Eskimos win 29-22
(3-4) Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ (4-3) Winnipeg Blue Bombers Friday 8:30pm ET
The Tiger-Cats have been on a bit of a downhill slide lately but beating the snot out of the Alouettes last week might get them back on track. It all starts with Jeremiah Masoli at QB. If he has a big game the Ti-Cats usually win. He’s had his ups and downs and in my mind still hasn’t proved himself to be a top tier quarterback in the league. If he could pull off another win against Winnipeg this week it could go a long way in convincing me he is one of the league’s best. For Winnipeg, They won two in a row before heading into a bye last week. It looks as though the offence is firing on all cylinders and their defence is one of the best in the league. The Bombers defence is a turnover machine. They are second in the league in total turnovers just behind the Calgary Stampeders. I think it is up to their defence to seal away this win.
Prediction: Blue Bombers win 26-21
(1-6) Montreal Alouettes @ (4-3) Ottawa Redblacks Saturday 8:00pm ET
The Alouettes looked as bad as I’ve ever seen a CFL team last week. Johnny Manziel’s first start in the league was less than spectacular but I don’t blame him. He couldn’t have known very much of the play book and it showed. This week I expect him to be a little bit better of a decision maker and should look more confident with the play book. But it certainly won’t be enough. For Ottawa showing up should do the trick this week if they want a win. My real key for a Redblacks win is pressure. Send six or seven guys at Manziel and force him to make bad decisions. It should also be a big week offensively for Ottawa as the Montreal defence is last in almost every statistical category. This one should be a no brainer.
Prediction: Redblacks win 42-24
I think that the Hamilton and Winnipeg game will be the game of the week. They each possess two of the better defences in the league. B.C has a chance of making their game with Edmonton close but will have to play a near perfect game against the league’s best player, Mike Reilly. As for Montreal I don’t see much hope this week until they figure out a way to get the offensive line to hold a block. There should be some good football games this week either way. Thanks for reading.
