Week 16 CFL Predictions

Week 15 had some really good games and one bad one. I went 3-1 straight up and 2-2 against the spread to move to 42-15 straight up and 36-21 against the spread this season. This week we have a battle of the best and a couple other big matchups as well. Let’s see how I see week 16 playing out.

(10-3) Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ (9-4) Winnipeg Blue Bombers Friday 6:30pm ET

The Tiger-Cats had a huge win against Edmonton last week, hitting a field goal with no time left on the clock to win. They had a great start scoring 24 unanswered to begin the game, but relinquished the lead and had to fight for the win. They will have to improve their ability to play with a lead against the Bombers this week. For Winnipeg they blew a lead as well, losing a 38-37 heartbreaker to the Montreal Alouettes. It was announced this week that the Bombers will be without Matt Nichols for the remainder of the season so it will be interesting to see how the remaining games play out. I think the Ti-Cats defence guides them to a win on the road.

Prediction: Tiger-Cats win 32-30

(6-7) Edmonton Eskimos @ (3-10) Ottawa Redblacks Saturday 4:00pm ET

Edmonton is in a funk, plain and simple. The Eskimos have been bad lately and have fallen to 4th in the west with not much hope of moving any higher in the West standings. If there was ever a team to turn their season around against it would be the struggling Ottawa Redblacks. The offence needs to get back to playing the right way and it may happen this weekend. Ottawa has been brutal lately and will go to a two QB system this week with Jonathon Jennings and Dom Davis. The problem is both QBs have been horrible so I don’t see anything improving with those two.

Prediction: Eskimos win 29-14

(8-4) Saskatchewan Roughriders @ (2-10) Toronto Argonauts Saturday 7:00pm ET

The Riders went on a bye last week after taking down Montreal the weekend before. The Riders have looked pretty good in the last seven or eight weeks besides a stumble in the Banjo Bowl. The offence is good, the defence is better that the start of the season and the special teams is O.K. This week they play a scrappy Argos team that is no push over lately despite their record. The Riders will have to bring their A-game to Toronto if they want to leave with a win. For Toronto James Franklin will get the start this week after replacing Mcleod Bethel-Thompson last week. I don’t agree with the decision at all. MBT has shown promise lately and pulling him is counter productive to the direction this team has been going in. James Franklin has proved multiple times he isn’t good enough to be a starter and it’s just a plain old bad call by Corey Chamblin but he’s really good at making bad quarterback calls so I’m not surprised.

Prediction: Roughriders win 31-21

(7-5) Montreal Alouettes @ (3-10) B.C. Lions Saturday 10:00pm ET

Montreal got a huge win in Winnipeg last week but they lost their starting QB, Vernon Adams Jr, to a suspension. This week they will need to lean on William Stanback to win in my opinion. Antonio Pipkin has proved he can be a quality starting QB and as long as Stanback and their defence play well I think they will escape B.C. with a win. For B.C. they have shown some fight but they did beat a baaaaaad Redblacks team twice. They will have to prove this week that they are more than just a bottom feeder. I don’t see it happening.

Prediction: Alouettes win 28-23

Week 16 Betting Odds (Bodog)

(2-2 against the spread last week ,  36-21 against the spread this season)

  • HAM @ WPG: Take HAM +4.5
  • EDM @ OTT: Take EDM -7.5
  • SSK @ TOR: Take SSK -5.5
  • MTL @ BC: Take MTL +6.5

This week there are a few playoff scenarios, namely the Riders clinching a spot with a win. There should be some good games and I look forward to watching. Thanks for reading!
