2021 CFL Week 4 Predictions

Well week 3 was an absolute mess for me in the CFL. Basically everything I thought was going to happen went the opposite way. A rookie QB beat a team that looked like world beaters the week before, Edmonton finally figured out their offence and Winnipeg looked pedestrian. Saskatchewan crushing Ottawa was all that really went right. I was 1-3 moneyline and 1-3 against the spread in week 3. I’m now 5-7 on the season in both categories. Let’s see if I can get back on track in week 4.

(1-2) Edmonton Elks @ (2-1) Toronto Argonauts Postponed

The CFL’s first trouble with COVID-19 has happened in week 4. Edmonton has at least 12 players positive for COVID this week and the game has been postponed.

(0-2) Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ (1-1) Montreal Alouettes Friday 7:30pm ET

Friday kicks off the CFL week this week as the Tiger-Cats look to pick up their first win of the season. The Ti-Cats will start Dane Evans at QB, Jeremiah Masoli has a rib injury suffered against the Riders. I don’t think that Hamilton is as bad as they’ve looked but their offensive line needs to be less leaky than they have been. Montreal needs a bounce back game after looking very good in their first game and not good at all in game number two last week against Calgary. I expect a better game from Hamilton but I think Montreal will put on a performance like they did in week 1 and pull out the victory.

Prediction: Alouettes win 26-23

(1-2) B.C. Lions @ (1-1) Ottawa Redblacks Saturday 7:00pm ET

The Lions looked alright against Edmonton but I’ve seen better from them this season. It was easily Lucky Whitehead and Bryan Burnham’s work games of the season and I expect a big bounce back from a Lions offence that will be going against one of the better defences in the league. Ottawa needs to figure out their offence and fast. It was not good against Saskatchewan and they just don’t really have anyone who can change the game with one play. Also, Matt Nichols continues to be a game manager which is fine when you have a bunch of weapons, but they don’t. I expect another loss for Ottawa.

Prediction: Lions win 22-15

(1-2) Calgary Stampeders @ (2-1) Winnipeg Blue Bombers Sunday 7:00pm ET

The Stampeders picked up a surprising win over Montreal last week with rookie Jake Maier under centre. The young QB looked shaky out of the gates but figured it out as the game went on and did enough to put the game in the win column. It is not going to get easier for the Stamps and Maier this week playing a Bombers team coming off their first loss of the season. Winnipeg had a brutal start in Toronto last week and couldn’t reign in the game. Their offence looked flat and Toronto was able to drive on Winnipeg’s D for the majority of the game. I expect a bounce back from Winnipeg this week as they look to maintain their spot near the top of the West.

Prediction: Blue Bombers win 27-24

Week 4 Betting odds: (According to BetRegal as of Aug 25)

HAM @ MTL: Take MTL -1.5

BC @ OTT: Take BC -2.5

CGY @ WPG: Take CGY +5.5

It was an entertaining week 3 and I expect more from week 4. The teams should be finding their stride after getting back in the groove the past few weeks and we should expect the offenses to start putting up more points as the players get more and more comfortable. I can’t wait. Thanks for reading!
